A delegation comprising of Mr. Steve Sonka – Interim Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Mr. Pradeep Khanna – Dean, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Dr. Vivek Damle – Coordinator India Operations, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign called on Prof. Vijay Page, Director General – MET IOM on 3rd March 2011 at 3.00 p.m. to discuss various opportunities for collaboration with the students and faculty of Mumbai Educational Trust. University of Illinois [Urbana Champaign] is the US leader in frontier areas of engineering, information technology [hardware and software], business management, agri-business management as well as the vast domain of humanities covering the broad canvas of art, spirituality, culture, etc.
They explained that they had been developing partnerships in India for the last six decades starting with the Panthnagar Agricultural University-UP as well as IIT-Kharagpur in 1950s. However, now they were looking at working with significant private sector institutions and autonomous programmes as private participation in the delivery of quality learning programmes is on the rise in our country. During the discussions lot of common areas have emerged and both the parties agreed to explore joined projects and programmes in number of areas.
During this meet many strategically potential areas that are mutually beneficial were identified. The Vice Chancellor – UC invited Prof. Vijay Page to visit their campus during their proposed visit this summer to carry on the talks further. With these deliberations the team left for US.
