MET Hydrogreen, the Green Club of MET Institute of Pharmacy (Diploma), organized a Nirmalya collection and composting drive on 13th September 2024 under the guidance of Principal Dr. Suryakant Bhosale and Green Club Faculty Coordinator Mrs. Dipali Khabale.
The initiative aimed to reduce the environmental impact of festival offerings. Students collected natural materials like flowers, leaves, and durva grass from homes and Ganesh pandals, which were composted in a specially prepared pit in the MET Garden. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with a large amount of Nirmalya collected. A compost pit, 4 feet by 4 feet, was created in the MET Garden on the college campus, and all collected Nirmalya was placed in the pit and covered with soil. Special care was taken to ensure no plastic, glass, or metal objects were mixed in the Nirmalya.
The activity was carried out with enthusiasm by Green Club members, and a sense of satisfaction was evident as they took a step toward preventing water pollution, conserving water, and optimizing the use of natural resources. This initiative not only helped prevent water pollution but also promoted sustainability by transforming Nirmalya into an organic fertilizer.
