MET Institute of Computer Science (MET-ICS) organized a Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) session for its students and staff online on July 9th, 2024. The session was conducted by Advocate Aileen Marques, a renowned legal expert in the field of the POSH Act. The primary objective of the session was to educate and sensitize participants about sexual harassment, preventive measures, legal frameworks, and reporting mechanisms.

Adv. Marques explained different forms of harassment (verbal, physical, visual) using relatable examples. She discussed the emotional, psychological, and physical impacts of harassment on victims, highlighting its effect on academic performance and mental health. She further detailed the key provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013, stressing the importance of knowing one’s rights. The procedures for reporting incidents were explained, assuring participants of confidentiality and support. Practical tips on promoting respectful communication and behaviour were shared. The session concluded with a Q&A segment, where participants posed questions to Adv. Marques.

The session was well-received, with positive feedback highlighting the clarity and comprehensiveness of the presentation.
