MRVís lessons on recycle and reuse win awards

MET Rishikul Vidyalaya hosted the Initiation Workshop, Phase V (2013-14) organized by TERI for a TERI-TETRA PAK PROJECT SEARCH on July 25, 2013. The workshop started with a welcome speech by MRV Principal, Mrs. Kavita Sanghvi, which was followed by an introductory speech about TERI by Ms. Pallavi Barua, Research Associate of Educating Youth for Sustainable Development (EYSD), TERI. She briefed the audience about various milestones of TERI.

Ms. Supriya Singh, also an Associate of EYSD, TERI had an enriching discussion on meaningful waste which had short but interesting activities for students incorporated in it. This kept the students on their toes and also broadened their perspectives on the topic. This was followed by a 20 min. animated documentary on the lifecycle of material goods, ‘Story of Stuff’ by Annie Leonard. Aimed at promoting sustainability, the film triggered some discussions from the students and teachers alike which led to the next session, ‘Cradle to Cradle: Learning to assess the lifecycle of products’.

MET Rishikul Vidyalaya also presented a video about MRV’s journey with TERI showcasing how this unique association only one turned out to be a significant and fruitful one but also became a part of the curriculum.

Aditya Patil from MET Rsihikul Vidyalaya who collected maximum tetra paks and winner of a video making on: What would you do to make Tetra Pak carton recycling fun? What can you do to preserve Antarctica? spoke briefly about his experiences. His award winning video was shown to the audience during this event.

In the most awaited prize distribution, MET Rishikul Vidyalaya was bestowed upon the Best Performing School award for the maximum tetra paks collected. Over and above this, this year TERI introduced ‘Founding Teacher’s Award’ for teachers who were the pillars for the success of the programme in their respective schools. MRV teacher Ms. Amber Jain was one of proud recipient of this prestigious award. It was a grand and successful workshop.
