MET Media Confluence 2015

On February 22, 2015 MET Institute of Mass Media witnessed a very entertaining and exhilarating day with the inauguration of their festival ‘The MET Media Confluence 2015’. Mr. Aftab Ahmed Khan former Indian Police Service officer, turned politician from Mumbai inaugurated the MET Media Confluence. A well-read and thoughtful former Deputy Inspector General of Police in Maharashtra, Mr. Khan gave an inspiring speech about the importance of responsible media in the lives of the police.
This was followed by a ‘Brand YOU’ workshop by Mr. Ajay Kulkarni, DGM - International Marketing, Times Now.  Mrs. Jaspreet Kaur, Vice President, Brand and Communications, BNP Paribas India, gave a short speech on how ethics and grooming are important in the corporate field.
On February 23, 2015, media students had the golden opportunity of interacting with Mr. Cyrus Dastur – Actor, Director and a Connoisseur of short films for the MET Media Confluence. He is also the founder of Shamiana – Asia’s biggest short film club. He advised and encouraged students to make short films and create awareness. Three short films were screened – Helium (2014 Oscar winning short film), Bagdad Messi (2015 Oscar nominated film) and Shadows of Blue, these films had huge impact on the audience. He gave tips and suggestions to the upcoming film makers and encouraged them to take up short filmmaking.
On February 24, 2015 Padma Shri Awardee, Film, Theatre and TV actor Mr. Tom Alter, graced the event and impacted the audience with his treat of Musical Book reading. He read out some of the famous poems of his close friend, veteran poem and writer Mr. Gulzar, and shortly turned the audiences spellbound. His voice and diction mesmerized the youngsters. He emphasized the importance of discipline and determination in lives of media professionals who want to climb the ladders of success. While narrating his memories of Mr. Gulzar saheb’s rebuking any phone calls on Sundays so that he could focus on his writings. He expressed gratitude to Gulzar sahab’s unique outlook of seeing the things differently, that brings pleasure to the reader. Mr. Alter concluded the event by applauding young students for their talent of singing and book reading.
The fourth day of the MET Media Confluence, i.e. February 25, 2015, was different from the other days. The excitement level of the audience could be felt in the atmosphere. Everyone was dressed in loose stretchable attires and why not? After all the session was all about grooving and having fun. Yes! The session was about dance. With celebrity guests like famous international tap dancer Mr. Jason Samuel Smith (Emmy Awardee) and well known Kathak dancer Ms. Seema Mehta, a lot of entertainment and fun was expected. The event started with the screening of a dance documentary called ‘UPAJ’ starring Pandit Chitresh Das and Mr. Jason Samuel. The documentary showcased the journey of the two dancers from how they managed to blend two forms of dance together and make it a huge success. This session was later followed by the Kathak Yoga workshop which spread awareness among the audience about the benefits of being fit and active. And also a brief knowledge of health and nutrition was shared for the audience by the guests. The event was a huge success all thanks to the cheerful chief guests who did not mind shaking a leg with the students and making the entire event interactive and harmonious.
On February 26, 2015 renowned screenplay writer Mr. Anjum Rajabali made the final day memorable with an interesting workshop on screenplay writing. Delving into his long experience in the industry, he stressed on the need to be creative. While writing well is hard work, a sound knowledge of basic storytelling principles combined with an understanding of the forms & rhythms of the screenplay helps free up the writer's imagination. This gives him the confidence to follow his intuition, helping him uncover interesting aspects of the characters, which in turn make the screenplay more nuanced, fresh and engrossing.
In all, MET Media Confluence was a great event which had knowledge, insights and entertainment confluence together to make it a perfect media event.
